Catch the New Preview for 'The Laughing Mask'

The Laughing Mask

“If you’re guilty… beware!”

LOS ANGELES, CA - November 27, 2012 - Director Michael Aguiar recently completed production on the horror titleCreeper. This title dealt with the potential horrors of the internet and social media. Now, Pendragon Productions and Aguiar are in development on another horror project, titled The Laughing Mask. In the vein of the Sawfranchise and Brendan Cowles Drive Thru, a maniacal killer targets those he deems guilty.

The Laughing Mask initially confines a young woman in the film’s first preview. She has turned her back on her child. In a moment of selfishness, this mother murders her child in order to get her life back. Yet, the Laughing Mask sees this act as it truly is: an act of murder and neglect. The Laughing Mask now looks to punish this mother in gory fashion as seen in the film’s first clip (below).

The Laughing Mask is currently in the development stages of production. Aguiar and cinematographer Kyle Fritsche are moving ahead with script production and they are also scouting locations to be used in a full feature for The Laughing Mask. Attack the Block (2011)

This action-packed English export lends an urban edge to the Science Fiction genre as Moses and his gang of underage punks are left to save the projects after alien invaders ATTACK THE BLOCK! Moses and his mates arm themselves with an array of heavy weapons, spouting out hip pop culture references as they hack and slash their way to safety. Joe Cornish's kinetic shooting style is fresh and fast-paced, taking off after the menacing four-legged aliens at electric speeds. These jet-black beasts are unlike anything we have seen before, and make for frightening new villains. Hidden beneath the fun and excitement on screen lies a biting social commentary that strikes at the sad economic and racial climate facing England's inner city youth. The clever combination of lighthearted humor, action, and fantasy horror works to elevate an otherwise average plot above the other Sci-Fi films of its kind.

Ghoulies (1985)

When it comes to tiny terrors, GHOULIES is a cut below the rest! The Ghoulies are summoned by a sorcerer's son after he inherits his family's mansion (as well as his father's arcane powers). The miniature monsters run amok, getting into mischief and killing anyone unfortunate enough to enter the estate! GHOULIES caused quite a stir during its initial theatrical run thanks to a marketing campaign that featured one of the mean little beasties popping out of the toilet (to the shock and dismay of potty-training parent everywhere). Like many of Empire's early pictures, GHOULIES is heavy on magic, monsters, and special effects, but lacks any form of substance. The film features early work by special effects designer John Carl Buechler, who attempts to create the widest variety of twisted little monsters as possible on an extremely low budget. The puppets that result are crude but effective, regardless of their cheapness. GHOULIES' cheesy charm wins out in the end, making this a cult-classic for many B-movie fnas.

Shock Treatment (1981)

Brad and Janet escape the clutches of the evil Dr. Frank-N-Furter only to end up becoming the unwitting stars of Denton TV's hit reality series in this little-known follow up to THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. Cliff De Young and Jessica Harper step in as Brad and Janet Majors, with many other familiar faces found within the cast (including screenwriter Richard O'Brien returning as the eccentric Dr. Cosmo McKinley). O'Brien transforms his love of cult Horror movies and classic television into another wild Rock Opera that strikes at America's obsession with the small screen. Although the musical numbers treat us to the same sharp wit and colorful characters as before, SHOCK TREATMENT never reaches the same level success as its predecessor. The tunes simply aren't as catchy, and none of the crazed villains can ever match Tim Curry's signature role as Transylvania's finest transvestite. Jessica Harper does a fine job in her solos "Me of Me" and "Carte Blanche," but even she cannot top her previous performance in Brian De Palma's THE PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE. In spite of its shortcomings, SHOCK TREATMENT has still found its own cult following amongst the midnight crowds, and is sure to entertain fans of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.

'The Bay' Opens This March in the UK!

“Director Barry Levinson deploys found footage to startling new effect, conveying terror of an ecological phenomenon that might easily be real… This is horror for grown-ups.”
-The Guardian

Opens in UK cinemas 01 Mar 2013

LONDON, GB - November 22, 2012 - The producers of horror hits “Sinister” and “Insidious” and the award-winning director of “Rain Man” team up to deliver a stark, disturbing and truly nerve-shredding tale of an ecological nightmare.

The quaint coastal town of Claridge, Maryland thrives on the safe, tranquil and abundant waters of Chesapeake Bay. During their annual Independence Day celebrations, a gruesome plague is unleashed, quickly infecting the residents and turning them against each other. A brutal and harrowing creature feature for the 21st century, “The Bay” graphically chronicles the descent of a small town into absolute terror.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, you find out you can’t even drink it! Veteran Hollywood blockbuster director Barry Levinson brings a rare pedigree to the horror genre utilising a variety of footage formats – from mobile phones, TV reports and CCTV to 911 recordings and web cam transmissions – to present a realistic and totally believable shocker. An intelligent and thought-provoking horror movie with enough gore and stomach-churning imagery to satisfy even the most hardened horror fans, “The Bay” could put you off seafood and even drinking water for quite some time after the credits roll.

Including the talents of Academy Award winning director Barry Levinson (Rain Man; Sleepers), producers Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity; Sinister; Insidious), Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity; Insidious), Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity; Insidious) and rising star Kristen Connolly (The Cabin In The Woods).

The critics have spoken! The Bay is:
“A well-crafted eco-horror film. The scares linger long after the credits roll.”

“An unnerving eco-disaster thriller that refreshes the found footage trend with surprisingeffectiveness.”

– The Hollywood Reporter.

“Provocative… generates significant dread.”

– Indiewire.

“A chilling tale of something nasty mutating in the waters… thrilling and provocative.”

– Screen Daily.

“Exciting and compelling… genuinely scary and effective.”

– Twitchfilm.

“A real creepfest, joins the suggestive company of eco-terror entries like Hitchcock’s ‘The Birds’ and 1979’s ‘Prophecy’… The body count is massive, the gore voluminous.”

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011)

The accursed Ghost Rider is hired by a secret sect of religious monks in the hopes of rescuing a young boy from the devil's grasp in exchange for his soul, a battle that will rage across Eastern Europe as The Rider takes on the forces of Hell atop his fiery motorcycle! CRANK directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylorn attempt to inject the same high-energy aesthetic in to the GHOST RIDER reboot, with disastrous results. SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE comes off looking like an unscripted mess, almost as if it were shot as an amateur music video for some no-name rock group. Nicolas Cage is as awful as ever. Why even bother rebooting the series only to bring back the single worst element from the original film? SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE takes a darker approach to the material that falls more closely in line with the comics, sacrificing the kid-friendly attitude from before in lieu of the increased action and horror. Ghost Rider has received a major overhaul as well, his charred skull and blistering costume being the only welcomed changes to the character. When standing before his enemies or blazing down the highway on his hellish motorcycle, he is an awesome sight to see. The remaining effects are uneven at best, and take a dive during the ugly transformation sequences. With a pointless excuse for a plot is hard to ignore, GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE offers little more than the occasional eye-candy.

The Bride (1985)

Doctor Frankenstein has finally created the perfect woman, but in his selfishness, he keeps her for himself and spurns the disfigured monster that he had promised a mate. After being cast aside by his creator, the newly-renamed Viktor befriends a rogue dwarf named Rinaldo as the two set out to create a new life for themselves in Budapest. Meanwhile, Frankenstein attempts to shape the beautiful Eva into a modern woman, but his hidden desires and lack of control over her will lead to his final undoing. Sting stars alongside the lovely Jennifer Beals in 1985's THE BRIDE, a romantic re-imagining of THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN. Director Franc Roddam quickly divides the separate storylines, but finds difficulty in striking a balance between the two. Despite the title, we spend the majority of the film following Viktor and Rinaldo on their journey to join the Budapest circus, a friendship that is greatly built upon by Clancy Brown and David Rappaport's interactions on screen. Sting appears to be holding back as Frankenstein, delivering a bland performance that lacks raw emotion. Jennifer Beals, on the other hand, makes for a wonderful Bride, shouting "You didn't create me! You didn't create ME!" in an impassioned response to Frankenstein's claims over her. Michael Seymour's lavish production design wins out over all.

Rating: 7/10.

'American Mary' Coming to DVD and Blu-ray in the UK!

"The Most startling and original horror film this year"
-Chris Tilly, IGN UK

On DVD and Blu-Ray 21 Jan 2013 in the UK

LONDON, GB - November 21, 2012 - The Soska Sisters (aka The Twisted Twins), co-creators of the award winning, cult indie smash hit Dead Hooker In A Trunk make an awe-inspiring return with their second feature AMERICAN MARY, a stylish, sexy, disturbing and darkly comic “body-mod” horror-thriller that many critics are hailing as the best and most genuinely original horror movie of the year.

Co-written and co-directed by Jen and Sylvia Soska (Dead Hooker In A Trunk) and featuring an outstanding, career-best lead performance by Katharine Isabelle (Being Human; Freddie vs. Jason; Ginger Snaps) in the title role, AMERICAN MARY has been wowing audiences at international film festivals (including London’s Film4 Frightfest) throughout 2012 and has already garnered Five Star reviews from and and Four Star reviews from Fangoria and Dread Central.

A provocative and thought-provoking combination of the horrors of a feminist “Frankenstein” with a fetishist twist and the visceral thrills of the “female revenge” genre, the film boasts a strikingly original script, laced throughout with a wicked sense of humour and a darkly erotic charge, that admirably takes the horror genre in a fresh and new direction. Simultaneously beautiful, repulsive, shocking and endearing, AMERICAN MARY is an unmissable experience that firmly establishes the Soska Sisters as two of the hottest new talents working in cinema today.

Struggling to make financial ends meet while studying to be a surgeon, talented medical student Mary Mason (Katharine Isabelle) finds herself reduced to applying for work at a local strip joint in order to pay off her mounting debts. During her interview, she is unexpectedly called upon to perform some illegal emergency surgery on one of the club’s clients and is instantly rewarded with a significant cash payment.

Word of Mary’s scalpel-work soon reaches one of the club’s dancers, Beatress Johnson (Tristan Risk), who approaches her offering to pay handsomely for some off-the-books, extreme body-modification work on a friend. The ensuing surgery is a huge success and Mary’s skills soon attract the attention of an underground network of high-paying clientele, all looking for someone to administer procedures and body-mod work unavailable through the usual legal channels.

However, the allure of the easy money and the increasingly bizarre work she is commissioned to perform begins to leave a mark on Mary, and when an incident involving the established surgeons she once idolized leaves her traumatised, “Bloody Mary”, as she has come to be known, responds in the only way she knows how.

'All Cheerleaders Die' Finds Cast and Crew

Modernciné to Produce the Supernatural Teen Thriller
From Directors Lucky McKee and Chris Sivertson

Caitlin Stasey and Sianoa Smit-McPhee join cast for shoot at end of the month

LOS ANGELES, CA - November 20, 2012 - Modernciné announced today that they have finalized the cast for ALL CHEERLEADERS DIE, a high school-set supernatural thriller written and directed by Lucky McKee (“May,” “The Woman”) and Chris Sivertson (“The Lost,” “I Know Who Killed Me”). The film is produced by Andrew van den Houten (‘’Funeral Kings,” “The Woman”), Robert Tonino (‘’The Woman,” “In the Family”) and stars Caitlin Stasey (“Tomorrow When the War Began”), Sianoa Smit-McPhee (“Hung”), and introduces Tom Williamson. Executive producing is Arrien Schiltkamp, with Russell Dinstein onboard as Co-Executive producer. The film is scheduled for a production start date of November 26th in Los Angeles.

Mäddy Killian is a 17 year old rebel at Blackfoot High School on a mission to take down the captain of the football team. She rallies a group of cheerleaders around her cause, but after a tragic turn of events the girls are thrust into a supernatural battle that culminates in a mayhem-filled night they will never forget.

This is the second collaboration between McKee and Modernciné, who worked together previously on the thriller THE WOMAN; CHEERLEADERS marks the first time Sivertson will work with the company. ALL CHEERLEADERS DIE is actually a reimagining of a video project McKee and Sivertson wrote and shot immediately after graduating from USC Film School some ten years ago. Since then, both have gone on to successful solo directing careers.

“ALL CHEERLEADERS DIE is leading us into the exciting world of popcorn fare, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have the creative freedom that a company like Modernciné provides for writer/directors. This is going to be a thrill-packed extravaganza with a hot young cast to die for,” said McKee and Sivertson.

“Working on my first collaboration with Mr. Sivertson and second feature with Mr. McKee is an honor and real opportunity to promote the artist driven approach I believe in. It’s what Modernciné is all about. Everything begins and ends with the directors’ vision and with that approach originality and timeless entertainment is born,” said Andrew van den Houten.

Recent projects for Modernciné include the critically-acclaimed, audience favorite FUNERAL KINGS, which debuted as an official selection at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and is currently playing at the Mann Chinese Theater in Los Angeles. Other films currently in post-production include JUG FACE, based on newcomer Chad Crawford Kinkle’s award winning screenplay from Slamdance 2011 and Brian Avenet-Bradley’s second feature BLACK BUTTERFLIES starring Gary Cairns and Brad Dourif.

Caitlin Stasey is repped by UTA and Magnolia Management, Sianoa Smit-McPhee by ICM and the Schiff Company, and Tom Williamson by Rothman Patino Andres Entertainment. Additionally, Chris Sivertson is repped by CAA, Aperture Entertainment, and Sloss Law, and Lucky McKee by Grossman, Nichols, Adler & Feldman.

PKDSFF 2012 Announces Horror Film Screenings

The Philip K. Dick International Film Festival
of Science Fiction, Metaphysics, Science and the Supernatural

December 7-9, 2012 at the Indie Screen Cinema in Williamsburg

NEW YORK, NY - November 20, 2012 - The 1st Philip K. Dick Science Fiction Film Festival is excited to announce two new films to its lineup: Chris Alexander's debut vampire tale Blood for Irina and Alejandro Brugués' Cuban zombie comedy Juan of the Dead.

Blood for Irina, from Fangoria editor Chris Alexander, follows the titular character: a predator who stalks streets at night looking for blood, she has lived over a century; tormented by memory, living in a run-down motel by the sea, Irina has reached the end. Her perceptions skewed, her body and mind revolting against themselves, she waits for an exit. Her private hell is echoed by the motel manager driven by an obsession to protect Irina and keep her secrets safe, and a broken prostitute whose desperate plight may be worse than Irina's.

Juan of the Dead follows the tale of consummate slacker/schemer/survivor Juan and his rogues gallery of friends as they navigate their way through the outbreak of a zombie apocalypse. Seeing a means to profit from the disaster, Juan forms a business out of disposing of loved ones who have turned over into mindless flesh eaters. Along the way they discover the situation they are in is declining fast, and their choice to stay and attempt to survive may have been the wrong one.

Named for the iconic novelist and short story writer whose work inspired the films Blade Runner, Total Recall and Minority Report, the three-day event aims to start a tradition of honoring films inspired by authors who have explored the metaphysical and eerie in all its manifestations.

Confirmed films for the Philip K. Dick Science Fiction Film Festival include the festival hit The Last Push starring Alien's Lance Henriksen, Tribeca selection First Winter from Benjamin Dickinson, and Radio Free Albemuth starring Alanis Morrissette and Twilight's Ashley Greene.

The first day of the festival will feature a 3 hour block of foreign-language science fiction films, courtesy of the Cervantes Institute. From 2pm to 5pm, screenings will be held of award-winning sci-fi from Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, and Portugal.

Dr. Ronald Mallett Ph.D will lead the panel "Is Science Fiction the Science of the Future?", joined by Latin American sci-fi writer Angela Posada-Swafford and Enrique Ricardo Miranda, Ph.D. "Philip K. Dick, the Meaning of Valis and the New Consciousness" will be hosted by Radio Free Albemuth director John Alan Simon. Walter Mosley, author of "Blue Light" and "The Wave," will be a panelist in "The Outside in Science Fiction," a focus on African-American and Latino perspectives in the genre.

Other highlights of the festival will be non-competitive screenings of the Sundance selection Sleep Dealer, Spiders 3D, The Mist in the Palm Trees and the science thriller The Final Equation. On the documentary side, the festival has an extensive lineup covering topics from artificial intelligence to the singularity and space exploration.

A full calendar of events can be found here. Registration is $20 for a one day pass, $15 for a one day pass ordered in advance, $55 for a three day pass and $45 for a three day pass in advance. For more information on the Philip K Dick Film Festival, please respond to this email.

Super (2010)

Move over Batman... There is a new super hero in town, and he is ready to bash his way through the skulls of injustice with his pipe wrench of truth! James Gunn returns with another explosive cult-comedy starring Rainn Wilson as The Crimson Bolt, a self-made super hero that takes up crime-fighting after a seedy drug dealer makes off with his wife. Together with the help of his trusty side-kick, Boltie, they will squash evil in all of its many forms! In a James Gunn film, that includes beating people senseless over minor indiscretions like butting in line and keying cars, naturally. Gunn pulls no punches when it comes to crass, irreverent humor and exploitative violence, taking each to their veritable extremes while hiding behind the guise of a super hero film. Dig deep enough, and there are many powerful themes at work that speak directly towards the concept of the vigilante super hero and the essence of right and wrong. Rainn Wilson embodies the role of our deranged hero perfectly, providing an equal balance of sad ineptitude with never-ending hope and courage. Ellen Page's foul-mouthed Boltie adds an entertaining mix as well, when she is not taking the role too far over the top. As a wry wink to the super hero genre, SUPER cannot be beat!

Teen Wolf Too (1987)

Todd Howard thinks that the family curse has finally skipped a generation until it lands right on his face in TEEN WOLF TOO! Christopher Leitch leaves nothing to chance in this unnecessary sequel, trying his best to recreate the same successes of the first film with very little variance. Jason Bateman is much better than the film deserves, and actually gives a sharp and funny performance despite the mediocre production. We see the same progression in Todd as we had scene before with Michael J. Fox's Scott, where both characters turn on their friends and become real jerks after getting a taste of teenage popularity. The only difference here is that Todd is now playing for the college boxing team rather than a high school basketball team. When topped off with the rather ugly make-up effects, Jason Bateman looks more like a disfigured cat than he ever does a wolf. Paul Sand, Mark Holton, and James Hampton make appearances from the original, with John Astin and Kim Darby joining the cast.

Leviathan (1989)

Deep beneath the ocean, a silver mining crew discovers a sunken Soviet ship whose crew died under mysterious circumstances. A review of their ship's data reveals that the Soviets were working on a deadly new biological weapon, and one that has begun to infect everyone on board! Of the many films to follow in ALIEN's footprint, LEVIATHAN comes closest to replicating the same level of fear and paranoia... At least in the first act. The film features an impressive cast led by Peter Weller and Richard Crenna, and also includes incredible production designs for both the interior and exterior sets of the underwater mining facility. It is most unfortunate that things quickly begin to fall apart in the over-indulgent ending, where the lackluster creature effects and laughable surprises drag an otherwise enjoyable film back into the depths. Regardless, LEVIATHAN comes as a welcomed addition to other Science Fiction horrors like THE THING, DEEPSTAR SIX, and the ALIEN series.

A giant reptilian monster threatens Japan after group of crazed scientists unleash nuclear devastation over the land, and it is up to the kappa of ancient legend to save the world in DEATH KAPPA! Rather than paying homage to the classic Kaiju era in a reverent satire, DEATH KAPPA reduces itself to an idiotic spoof that is continually brought down by its sophomoric screenplay and dulled sense of humor. Director Tomo'o Haraguchi intentionally reveals the wires carrying the model planes, the false backdrops, and the cheapness of his scale miniatures for laughs, but each weakened attempt to poke fun at the genre falls flat due to the poor production quality and complete lack of wit. The horrendous costume designs for the two leading monsters do nothing to help, either. What we are left with is a muddled, disjointed mess of a film that is an embarrassment to Kaiju fans everywhere.

Short: Light Friday (2011)

Spanish director Asier Abio Olazar may have already won the award for "Most Unexpected Moment in Horror" this year for his bloody hilarious short, LIGHT FRIDAY! We watch as a filthy old man slathers mayonnaise on his greasy plate of French fries while drooling over a pair of over-sexed television stars. As things heat up on screen, our wide-eyed pervert excitedly finished off his plate, and in a moment of pure ecstasy, dips his fingers into the mayonnaise by mistake... It doesn't stop there, however, and just when you think Olazar has hit his gory limits, he pushes the envelope of shock cinema to its veritable extreme! LIGHT FRIDAY is unmistakingly hilarious, and despite its exploitative gore, it is deceivingly well-shot and expertly acted. One thing's for sure: You have never seen anything quite like LIGHT FRIDAY!

Short: The Dump (2012)

Two unsuspecting serial killers find that they have much more in common after bumping in to each other at a remote dump site in Rebekah McKendry's brilliant short, THE DUMP. Deconstructionist Horror hasn't been this sharp since Leslie Vernon! McKendry and co-writer David Ian McKendry peel back the stereotypes of the Slasher genre to reveal the heart and soul behind the mask. The keen wit and clever dialog are only enhanced by a pair of killer performances from leading men Matthew Currie Holmes and Jack Bennett. These two carry out the physical comedy just as well, and create a pair of lovable new lowlifes that audiences are sure to enjoy. THE DUMP ranks among the best in 2012's short scene.

Short: Haven in the Hills (2012)

Marissa and Christian decide its time to get back at their parents after taking their abuse for the last time, but when these kids get even, things get ugly! Michael Brown and Eric Fox pull no punches in this ridiculous piece of exploitative trash. It may be awful, but it is awfully funny as well! The parents are poorly drawn stereotypes that are equally over-played, which makes it that much more satisfying when they are brutally beaten and bloodied by their kids. Underage drinking, cursing, gratuitous gore... This is truly a parent's worst nightmare, but the ultimate guilty pleasure for most Horror fans!

Short: Hell's Belles (2012)

Christian Ackerman's killer short scores big laughs as a couple of ill-prepared paranormal investigators are called out to a remote farmhouse by the town sheriff in order to stop the demon lord Beleth from taking a local virgin as his bride! Ackerman introduces a pair of entertaining new heroines in Adria Blackmoor (Ariel Teal Toombs) and Helena Garcia (Mayra Rodriguez). Bonjah Kele's towering demon Beleth is every bit as intimidating as Tim Curry was in LEGEND, with astounding make-up designs to match. The humor may be crass, but it is undeniably hilarious. Let's hope that Adria and Helena return to raise hell once more in an upcoming feature!

The Black Dahlia Haunting (2012)

Holly returns to Los Angeles to speak with her brother after he commits a shocking double homicide against their parents, but something sinister is at foot when Holly discovers that the vengeful spirit of Elizabeth Short may have possessed young Taylor, and is after her next! Never mind the absurd premise. The disastrous pacing in the opening act is the first major blow to this psychological ghost story, but certainly not the last. THE BLACK DAHLIA HAUNTING is a talentless production from start to finish that buries itself beneath its disjointed story arcs, uninspired cinematography, and poor performances. The audience is expected to accept the supernatural aspects of the film with absolutely no indication as to why they are occurring thanks to the sloppy screenwriting. Save yourself the frustration and skip THE BLACK DAHLIA HAUNTING.

This Island Earth (1955)

Two of Earth's most brilliant scientists are whisked away to aid an alien race in their interplanetary war in THIS ISLAND EARTH! Upon release, this Science Fiction classic stunned audiences with its incredible array of special effects presented in eye-popping Technicolor, but behind the visual appeal lies a thought-provoking storyline and an admirable list of characters who bring the film up from the usual 1950's fare. The alien struggle in THIS ISLAND EARTH serves as a microcosm for our own fears of nuclear devastation entering the Cold War. The uranium deposits that the Metalunans have come to Earth to mine would only be used to create weapons of mass destruction against their enemies, but as we come to find, this only leads to the complete annihilation of both races. THIS ISLAND EARTH features a great cast led by Jeff Morrow in the role of Exeter, Faith Domergue as Dr. Ruth Adams, and Rex Reason as Dr. Cal Meachum. It also includes some of the most memorable monsters from the era: The mutant slaves of the Metalunans. Certainly a must-see for all Science Fiction fans.

Teen Wolf (1985)

From 1985 comes the classic coming-of-age comedy, TEEN WOLF, starring Michael J. Fox! As if homework weren't already hard enough, high school loser Scott Howard starts noticing some odd changes as he is transformed into a teenage werewolf. His enhanced abilities and scary new look quickly make him a star on the court and the most popular kid in school, but as Scott begins to lose himself in "the animal," he must learn that with great power comes great responsibility. Michael J. Fox gives another entertaining performance as Scott Howard, whose shy apprehension prior to his literal and figurative transformation makes him a lovable dork. TEEN WOLF is clearly a product of its time, following strict standards that have been set forth by other teen comedies of the era. Memorable moments like Scott's trip to the liquor store and the van surfing scene have made this a fan favorite for decades, however, and for good reason. Despite the obvious 1980's cliches, the humor is well-written, the lines are perfectly delivered, and the monster make-up used to turn Fox into the wolf couldn't be more suitable to add a soft horror edge. It's time to take a trip back and rewatch TEEN WOLF today!

Silent House (2011)

Sarah attempts to elude her would-be assailants after being trapped in her parents' remote lake house in the edge-of-your-seat thriller SILENT HOUSE. Chris Kentis and Laura Lau of OPEN WATER fame stage the action in real time, using clever editing techniques to disguise their cuts while creating the illusion that the entire film has been performed in a single shot. Kentis and Lau experiment with as many different angles and framing methods as they can realistically achieve given these stylistic constraints, and although this frequently removes the viewer from the false sense of reality, any film maker can appreciate the effort and creativity that is being employed on screen. What this hand-held technique does provide is a level of uncomfortability and voyeuristic intrusion in to the events, forcing the audience inside the room as we creep down the dark and dangerous hallways right alongside Sarah. Elizabeth Olson gives another excellent performance as Sarah, whose sheer terror and vulnerability rattle us to the bone. SILENT HOUSE comes out a big winner in the scare department while greatly impressing with its unique approach to film making.

Bloody Mallory (2002)

When the pope is kidnapped by a gang of ghouls, it is up to Mallory and her team of supernatural exterminators to battle their way through the bounds of Hell in order to save His Holiness! BLOODY MALLORY drops the fast-paced action of a Japanese animation into a Gothic Horror setting for an energetic and highly entertaining mix of martial arts and dark comedic horror. Julien Magnat shows no lack of ambition behind the camera, transcending the film's small budget with his emphasis on style and production design. The flashy costumes and eccentric characters give us the look and feel of a live-action comic book, but with sharp dialog that is more akin to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer television series. French phenom Olivia Bonamy stars as the sexy demon slayer, proving to be just as fit for the role as any Sarah Michelle Gellar or Milla Jovovich. When it comes to Horror Comedies, BLOODY MALLORY is a gory good time!

'Blood Shed' Marks First Feature From Red Sea / Enderby

First title
Scheduled to shoot in November

LOS ANGELES, CA – November 7, 2012 – Red Sea Media, along with their genre label Dead Sea Media, has announced today that they have entered into a four film production partnership with Enderby Entertainment and their genre label Tony-Seven Films. The projects span a number of genres including horror, thriller, science fiction and supernatural, with Red Sea Media and Tony-Seven Films introducing these titles, along with each company's current slate, during the American Film Market. Red Sea Media will also be handling all international rights to the films.

The first film to be produced under the deal will be BLOOD SHED, written and created by 2010 Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting Competition Quarterfinalist and 2011 UCLA Screenwriting Contest Finalist Patrick Hasson, who will serve as film's director, along with co-director Juan Carlos Saizarbortia. The cast includes Bai Ling (“Crank: High Voltage”) and Vida Guerra (“Not Another Celebrity Movie”). Producers are Rick Dugdale for Enderby Entertainment and Roman Kopelevich for Red Sea Media. Executive producing is Vadim Gorainov, Sveta Snitko, Daniel Petrie, Jr., George Peyton and Greg Hall. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in November of this year.

BLOOD SHED is based on the true events of a loner who moves into a storage facility inhabited by a community of squatters until they are locked in for the night with a deranged demonic witch who hunts them down in search of her lost child.

In development for the second slot under the deal is ENCOUNTER AT NP-9, a paranormal thriller written by Todd Ireland and based on a true story set in the frozen mountains of Siberia. The film is scheduled for a shoot in Slovakia in February, 2013, with additional production details soon to be announced.

"From our previous releases we've really identified the audiences for our brand, especially through our social media platforms. We're focused on creating a new "searchable" sub-genre for horror fans and we think we've found it. We're thrilled to move forward on this with Red Sea," said Enderby Entertainment’s President Rick Dugdale.

“After many conversations with Rick Dugdale over the past year, we realized we both believed that genre films should be produced to appeal to their fans first and foremost. Fans should be taken into consideration before the movie gets shot, not after as is commonly done in Hollywood. That, along with the needs of foreign distributors and broadcasters, was taken into consideration when we greenlit this first production slate,” said Roman Kopelevich, President of Red Sea Media.

Recent Tony-7 films include THE SPEAK, VILE and NO TELL MOTEL with 5 SOULS and A HAUNTING AT SILVER FALLS soon to be released.

The Walls of the Castle
by Tom Piccirilli

New Psychological Thriller Novella and First Title
In the New Black Labyrinth Imprint

ASHLAND, OR - November 7, 2012 - From four-time winner of the Bram Stoker Award, two-time winner of the International Thriller Writers Award and finalist for the 2009 Edgar Allan Poe Award Tom Piccirilli comes an intense and visceral psychological thriller novella, the first title in the Black Labyrinth imprint illustrated by Gothic artist Santiago caruso.

20% of all hardcover proceeds and 100% of ebook proceeds will be donated directly to author Tom Piccirilli in his fight against brain cancer.

Ex-con Kasteel remained in the medical center for four months as his son lay dying, losing him his job, his wife and nearly his mind as he refused to leave the side of his son. The medical center that he now takes refuge in is an enormous labyrinth of corridors, annexes and wings known as The Castle. Kasteel has become a phantom prowling the halls in the deep night, a shadow of his former self until he faded from sight and was forgotten altogether. But with no life to return to, he takes it upon himself to become the Castle’s guardian. Kasteel sleeps in empty operating theaters, sneaks food from the cafeteria, hacks into computers, and is privy to both staff and patient files. Using his skills as a burglar he tracks down the attackers, the deceivers, and the killers.

But a new name is now whispered in the Castle: Abaddon, the ancient name for the angel of death. A brain-damaged woman has visions and speaks only to Kasteel. Abaddon is a killer, a man lost to the Castle like Kasteel himself, wandering the corridors searching out victims. Even as Abaddon hunts the innocent, Kasteel hunts Abaddon, eager for a final showdown that may at last set him free.

An atmospheric yet action-packed, mature crime noirella that is part examination into the bonds of family and part treatise on the nature of identity, The Walls of the Castle explores the deepest areas of what makes us who we are. With a noir sensibility and complexity of character, the novella is a hybrid psychological thriller that’s part suspense tale, part family saga, and part literate mystery.

Tom Piccirilli is an American novelist and short story writer. He has sold over 150 stories in the mystery, thriller, horror, erotica, and science fiction fields. Piccirilli is a two-time winner of the International Thriller Writers Award for “Best Paperback Original” (2008, 2010). He is a four-time winner of the Bram Stoker Award. He was also a finalist for the 2009 Edgar Allan Poe Award given by the Mystery Writers of America, a final nominee for the Fantasy Award, and he won the first Bram Stoker Award given in the category of “Best Poetry Collection”.

The Brood (1979)

Frank Carveth is caught in the middle of a series of strange murders that are being committed by a group of deformed children who are somehow connected to his estranged wife and her New Age psychologist in THE BROOD. The horror comes from within once again as David Cronenberg projects psychological traumas into physical embodiments of evil through “psychoplasmics,” a fictionalized form of therapy that is employed by Oliver Reed's character, Dr. Hal Raglan. Raglan has found his star pupil in Nola Carveth (Samantha Eggar), whose torment and rage manifest in most peculiar ways. Eggar is flawless as our distressed mother and housewife, a performance that is only topped by Oliver Reed as the frigid Dr. Raglan. In addition to the powerful character drama that plays out on screen, Cronenberg assaults the viewer with intense moments of unrelenting violence as the brood act out their aggressions on their unsuspecting victims. THE BROOD ranks highly amongst Cronenberg's finer works, delivering deep psychological terror right alongside the outward horror.

'Predatory Moon' Gets Under Way in Florida

Tears into production in the Florida Everglades

ORMOND BEACH, FL - November 3, 2012 - Production has begun on the movie Predatory Moon, a werewolf movie done with all practical effects that will be the directorial debut of F/X artist Shiva Rodriguez.

Shiva Rodriguez is one of the few female directors in the male-dominated indie horror scene. These days most werewolf transformations are done with CGI but Shiva will be doing it with practical effects like the classic film "An American Werewolf In London". Please check out the video on the campaign page to see how she plans on achieving this difficult feat.

Official website:

Shiva has been in the entertainment industry since 1988, working with theatre and performance art productions before moving into film and video in 2008. While she's best known for her work in practical F/X for stage and screen, she also has experience as an art director, stage manager, costume designer, set decorator, video editor, screenwriter, and producer.

She has done the effects for such movies as “The Housewife Slasher” “Horrorscapes” “Rough Cut” and “Dangerous People”

Predatory Moon is a unique werewolf story that takes place near the Florida Everglades. Zoologist Kyle Reading suspects that the violent bear attack he's investigating was actually the work of a far more sinister creature. Acting on his suspicions, he begins to take a closer look at Dean, the sole survivor of the incident who is displaying some very unusual behavior.

Unfortunately for Kyle, there is someone watching him very closely too. Someone who sees an advantage to having a stranger in town who cries “werewolf”.

Predatory Moon is a very old-school style horror film geared toward fans of the genre. This production will be shot on location in Florida in 2013, utilizing a talented cast and crew of local film-makers, natural locations, and 100% practical effects.

Wrong Turn 5 (2012)

Fox takes another wrong turn with this failing Slasher series, this time bringing the inbred hillbillies out of the woods and in to the Mountain Man music festival, where they have their pick of plenty of drugged-up, over-sexed teenagers to mangle and destroy as they see fit. Why this is being called WRONG TURN 5 when all of the teens end up exactly where they intended to is beyond us, but that is the least of our worries. Declan O'Brien's script could have supplanted any other group of deranged killers and the film would have remained just as pointless and unnecessary as the last sequel. Once the audience has given up on the annoying lead characters, the only thing to look forward to is the gratuitous sex and gore, but even the effects department fails to deliver any memorable moments of bloody violence. The continued decline in quality and entertainment that this series poses is beginning to outweigh the fun of the first two films, and it is time to either bring back Joe Lynch for more absurd exploitation or kill off the mutant mountain men once and for all.

Rating: 4/10.
